What did the Bago Magic have done in Year 2005?

In 2005, Bago Magic Performance Group received funding from the Regional Arts Fund. Drama, music, and visual arts teachers guided the group in the creation of "Island Dreaming". On the Saturday, 24th September, a matinee and an evening show were presented at the Player's Theatre Port Macquarie.

Participants were involved in making costumes backdrops and props, writing and performing music and song, development of scripts and characters, dance, acting, back stage, front of house and make-up. Over 45 participants were involved in the show, some people duplicating roles, showing a variety of skills learnt. The National Bank in Wauchope donated $1,000.

The project caught the eye of some film students in Armidale who were so impressed by the performance group that theyt made a documentary. Bago Magic Performance Group were invited to attend and to perform at the Aqua Sculpture Festival. The group rearranged certain scenes of their "Island Dreaming" show to perform a relevant skit on global warming on island, wildlife and community. For International Day of People with a DisAbility 2005, the group arranged a radio interview, a speech and a Funky Dance Party. Before the party started there was a screening of the documentary of "Island Dreaming" and a BBQ dinner.

What did the Bago Magic have done after the Mambo Italiano late that year?

In September, Year 2004 the Bago Magic Performance Group hosted a clowning workshop which attracted a number of interested people from the community. Bago Magic Performers next performed at Wauchope's Community Spirit Dinner on the Friday, the 8th of October 2004. This performance conveyed a message that people with disabilities are like any one else and dream of acceptance and equality. On the Sunday, the 7th of November Bago Magic Performance Group performed again, this time at the 2004 Discoverfest where they used their clowning skills to roam through the crowd interacting and presenting skits. This was followed by a short main-stage performance.

The group received funding from the Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care and Accessible Arts, to participate in International Day of People with a disability celebrations across the nation on the 3rd of December 2004. Using the clowning skills and roaming theatre once again, the group entertained through the streets of Wauchope, informing the community about international Day of People with a disability. The invited the community to listen to their message following the them "Don't Dis My Ability"

That's when I was acting as Robby The Robot as my clown character.

How was Bago Magic assisted in 2001?

They received a small grant from the Arts Mid North Coast to employe a drama / dance teacher, a drummer / percussionist and a storyteller. Props and costumes were made by the group to perform at Port Panthers on International Day of People with a disability.

When was Bago Magic's first performance?

The first performance was at Wauchope Bago Festival on Saturday 22nd September 2001. The performance was called "The Days of Our Lives" and had a simple message that people with disabilities was just like anyone else.

How was Bago Magic started?

It was started in June 2001 as a Leisure Link activity for people in the Wauchope district who have a disability. Leisure Link is a recreational support program of Hasting District Respite Care Inc.

What is Bago Magic?
